(October 21, 2013) - The IMG Junior Golf Tour got underway for its fifth event of the season at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., Oct. 19-20. The event attracted a full field of 90 players from nine states and 14 countries. In the Boys 15-18 division, Mexico’s Camilo Mexsen ran away with the victory by setting the Tour record with an astounding 11-under 135, with scores of 66, 69. Mexsen finished four-strokes ahead of second place finisher Yidong Zhang (-7) of Orlando, Fla. Rounding out the top-three was Mexico’s Jose Calanda, who finished with a four-under 142.

“I just went out and proved myself, and it feels really good to set the Tour record,” Mexsen said of his record-setting performance. “I felt good out there, and the fairways are wide and the greens are big, so I was aggressive.”

The Girls 15-18 division had a dramatic finish between China’s Symba Xu and Thailand’s Jaravee Boonchant. Both players entered the scoring tent tied at three-under 143. With more than a third of the field looking on, 14-year old Xu birdied the 14th hole and edged out Boonchant for the win in her second appearance on Tour this season. Alex Wright of Midlothian, Va. was only one stroke off the lead, good for third place after shooting a strong two-under 144.

The Boys 11-14 division also came down to a playoff with Alex Hu of Lake Mary, Fla. and Ray Navis of Ponte Vedre Beach, Fla. finishing their rounds tied at one-over 147. Hu bested Navis on the playoff hole to take home the title in his first-career appearance on Tour.

Amy Zhang of Lake Mary, Fla. was victorious in the Girls 11-14 division, and shot a three-over 149 for a commanding nine-stroke win.

It was the IMG Junior Golf Tour’s third consecutive year to tee off in Orlando at Eagle Creek. The event was recognized by the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings, and AJGA Performance Based Entry was awarded to the top-five boys in the 15-18 division, and the Girls 15-18 champion. The IMG Junior Golf Tour returns to the Northeast with the ALINE System Junior Open, to be held at Wyncote Golf Club in Oxford, Pa., Oct. 26-27.
