IMG Junior Golf Tour celebrates Thanksgiving at Orlando's Grand Cypress

Kavan Eubank lights up Boys 15-18 division with record-setting performance; Jaravee Boonchant cards second straight Girls 15-18 division win; David Giandomenico wins Boys 11-14 division; Amy Zhang victorious in Girls 11-14 division

IMG Junior Golf Tour Grand CypressBRADENTON, Fla. (December 3, 2013) - For the third consecutive year, the IMG Junior Golf Tour teed off at Grand Cypress Golf Club - New Course for Thanksgiving at Grand Cypress, held in Orlando, Fla., Nov. 29 - Dec. 1. The event attracted a full field of 90 players, including several from as far as Australia. In the Boys 15-18 division, Kavan Eubank of Bradenton, Fla. stole the show with a record shattering performance through the three-day event. Eubank set the Tour record with a round of 63 (-9) on the final day, and his weekend total of 12-under 204 set the Tour 54-hole record.

“At the turn I was four-under par and that is when I knew I had it going,” Eubank said of the moment when he knew he was on to something special. “I knew I had played two consistent rounds, but I was still nervous.”

Eubank, who also won the Tour Championship in May, recently signed his NCAA National Letter of Intent to join California Baptist University in Riverside, Calif., and his previous best finish this season was 13th at Eagle Creek in October.

In the Girls 15-18 division, Thailand’s Jaravee Boonchant continued her remarkably consistent play, notching her second consecutive victory with a solid nine-over 225 performance. In four appearances on Tour this season, Boonchant now how two wins and two runner-up finishes. She paced the field by five strokes, with Japan’s Nagisa Miura (+14) securing the runner-up spot.

Other winners at the event included 14-year old David Giandomenico taking the Boys 11-14 title with an 11-over 227 performance. The Girls 11-14 division went to 13-year old Amy Zhang who finished with scores of 81, 78, 77 to maintain the lead throughout the event.

The New Course is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Designed course, and ranked among the top-20 courses you can by in Florida by Golfweek. The course was designed as a tribute and homage to Scotland’s famed Old Course at St. Andrews, and is complete with double greens, stone bridges and walls, gorse mounds, burns and pot bunkers as deep as 12-feet. Eubank and Boonchant each received four stars for AJGA Performance Based Entry, and the top-five in the Boys 15-18 division each earned one-star.

The IMG Junior Golf Tour will return to action January 18-20 at Laurel Oak Country Club in Sarasota, Fla. for another 54-hole event recognized by AJGA Performance Based Entry and Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings.
