MORE THAN 200 INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR GOLFERS TO COMPETE AT FIFTH ANNUAL IMG ACADEMY JUNIOR WORLD FLORIDA CHALLENGE

 

BRADENTON (December 9, 2019) – The fifth annual IMG Academy Junior World Florida Challenge is coming to the Suncoast, taking place across three Bradenton-Sarasota area courses December 14-16. The invite-only event is expecting more than 200 players from over 30 countries competing in the Boys 15-18, Girls 15-18, Boys 11-14 and Girls 11-14 divisions.

 

Each of the three venues will host different divisions of play, as follows…

·         The Resort at Longboat Key, Links at Longboat Course – Boys 15-18 Division

·         Sara Bay Country Club – Girls 15-18 Division

·         Palm Aire Country Club, Champions Course – Boys and Girls 11-14 Divisions

The IMG Academy Junior World Florida Challenge was founded as the sister event to the IMG Academy Junior World Championships in San Diego, Calif., held each summer. The Florida Challenge format will be a 54-hole stroke play event, with expected start times for participants to vary by course.

Things get underway with the Welcome Festival and Tournament Check-in at IMG Academy on Thursday, Dec. 12. Practice rounds will take place on Friday, Dec. 13, followed by competition rounds Saturday – Monday, Dec. 14-16.

Champions in select divisions will be invited to compete in the IMG Academy Junior World Championships in San Diego in July. The event is recognized by the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings, Junior Golf Scoreboard and AJGA Performance Based Entry Status will be awarded to top finishers.

 

Past participants in the event include the likes of 2016 Masters invitee Paul Chaplet of Costa Rica, NCAA No. 17 ranked Duke Blue Devil Jaravee Boonchant, 2-time European Tour winner Guido Migliozzi of Italy, NCAA No. 2 ranked Texas Longhorn Sophie Guo, and 3-time LPGA Tour winner Nasa Hotaoka, the current No. 5 ranked player in the LPGA Rolex Ranking.
